Chestnut National Night Out and Neighborhood Gathering - Oct 1st
Mark your calendars because it's time again to celebrate National Night Out, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6-8pm in the pretty Chestnut Community Park at the corner of East 16th and Chestnut.
As usual, our celebration will be a potluck event, so I wanted to send you a note now so you can be thinking about what you'd like to bring to the party. We're hoping to have sausage from Longhorn Meats and hotdogs from A New Entry, some iced beverage from Bennu and some of Mr. Johnson's amazing banana pudding. Otherwise, what we eat will be up to you!
For those of you who don't know, National Night Out is a chance for neighbors to come together to meet and greet and, in our case, eat, in a show of solidarity against neighborhood crime.
This year we're signed up for a visit from the Austin Fire Department, EMS, Code Enforcement, and with a special visit from Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo and from our Central East Area Commander Fred Fletcher. In addition, the head of the Sustainable Food Center is coming to talk about their operations around town -- including the farmer's market at our very own M Station. Creative Action is also on hand for the night, to talk about their work with kids in Austin – and will be organizing activities for the kiddos of CANA to enjoy. There will also be a chance to learn 10-minute compression-only CPR –- so we can be prepared to help one another in an emergency -- and we will be having a school-supply giveaway for neighborhood students!
Doesn't it sound like a great time? Well, it COULD be great -- but only if you mark your calendars, plan to bring a dish, and show up to meet and mingle with the neighborhood!
I'll send out another reminder a bit closer to the event, but am hoping that with this much notice we'll have a really great turnout for this year's event. Please make an effort to come -- it won't be the same without you ther

E-Cycling Old Computers and TVs - April 15th
The Student Engineering Council is hosting their annual E-cycling drive on April 15, 2012 in the LBJ parking lot from 8 AM to 5 PM. This is a campus-wide effort to reduce poor recycling methods of unwanted and/or unused electronics. Goodwill and Computer Works are teaming up with UT to provide the greater Austin area with an opportunity to recycle their electronics.
During this drive, volunteers can sign up and help with various tasks that include packaging the electronics and directing the flow of traffic.
Our committee was wondering if you knew of any electronics that the Chestnut community may have that we could possibly recycle in the proper manner.
Also, we would greatly appreciate if you spread the word about our event and encourage participation and/or telling people to bring their electronics on this day.

Thank you so much for your time and effort.
If you have any questions, you can contact us at this e-mail.
Sincerely,
E-cycle team
